A 3 minute Founder DNA quiz for teen entrepreneurs

StarterSky is a selective 3 to 4 month teen startup accelerator for ambitious high school students (13 to 18) in India and Dubai, where students build and launch real ventures while developing standout college application outcomes. This quiz is a free tool we built to help you figure out who you are.

Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak built Apple together, but they were extremely different. One saw the future. The other built the machine. Every great startup runs on a mix of founder types working together.

So which one are you?

— The Founders

The 5 Founder Types

1

The Visionary

He or she sees the opportunity before anyone else does. Visionaries spot problems in everyday life and imagine a world that works differently. Examples are Elon Musk, Falguni Nayar (Nykaa), Ritesh Agarwal (started OYO at 17) or someone who is thinking of things that don’t exist.

2

The Builder

Turns the idea into something real. Builders are the ones who actually start making. They love tools, prototypes, and shipping things. Examples are Steve Wozniak of Apple and Sachin and Binny Bansal (Flipkart).

3

The Marketer

This is the type of person who gets people to pay attention. Marketers know how to tell a story that makes people care. They work on social media, content, and community. Think Ankur Warikoo,Emma Chamberlain  or anyone with a niche Instagram account that has 100K followers.

4

The Operator

Operators are the reason startups don’t fall apart. They are the backbone of a startup. They love systems, spreadsheets, and figuring out how to make multiple things happen at once. Think of Tim Cook (Apple) or Indra Nooyi (PepsiCo).

5

The Creator

Shapes what the team stands for. Creators set the culture, the startup and the vibe. Think Brian Chesky (Airbnb), or Deepinder Goyal (Zomato).

— Who It’s For

Why Founder Type Matters for Teen Entrepreneurs

Most schools teach entrepreneurship like there’s one type of founder- usually the loud, visionary with a pitch deck. That’s wrong, and it pushes a lot of teens who are capable of starting things.

The truth is that almost every successful startup is founded by 2 or 3 people with different strengths working together. Stripe was built by two brothers, one technical, one who was great at operations. Flipkart was built by two friends with complementary skills. Even solo founders usually understand what the are not good at and hire people for this early.

For teen founders, knowing your type matters for three reasons:

1
You stop trying to be someone you're not. If you're a Builder, you don't need to force yourself to do Instagram marketing. Find a Marketer to team up with.
2
You build better teams. When you join a competition, or an accelerator, you will know who to look for as a co-founder.
3
Your college applications get sharper. Admissions officers can tell when a student understands themselves. "I'm an Operator and I run the systems behind our 50 people student club" is a stronger story than "I am passionate about leadership."

Your secondary type (most founders are a mix)

Specific strengths and blind spots based on your result

A breakdown of how would be able contribute to a startup team

Suggestions for what to build, learn, or do next

It's free. You don't need to sign up to start. We only ask for your email at the end if you want your full result emailed to you.

What to Do With Your Result

Once you know your founder type, the next step is to actually build something. Reading about entrepreneurship is not the same as doing it.
